Problems Of McKinley Park
McKinley Park does have its Positives but this neighborhood does have a lot of the negative factors.
A main problem in McKinley Park would be the high amount of theft it has each year. McKinley Park has a exceptionally high rating in theft, as much as 607 thefts reports each year. This is 25% higher than most neighborhoods in Chicago.
Most people robbed are those who live closer to the dangerous areas 35th street ,Damen, and Wood street. The most common cases are peoples garages and cars being stolen and sometimes depending on the situation, they will even raid your home.
Why is this a Problem?
Peoples homes are getting robbed and it is hard to catch the robbers because most of the time when the cops get there, the people would have already ran off. They will steal your items and sell them off not knowing what they are worth to you. My uncle in law had half of his life token from him because he was robbed in Indiana. He moved to Illinois and met my aunt but was robbed again and a lot of things given to him from his first wife. Since my aunt is his second wife and his first wife passed away. The robbers don't really know what they stole from him but I bet it must really be painful.
I have a house near Paulina street near wood and my friend that lives exactly next to that house he was robbed. They broke into their garage at night and took their power tools and most expensive items. They called the police but still did not manage to find the burglars.
Imagine you are asleep in your bed and all of a sudden you hear your door kicked open or your car screeching away. You would be very frantic in that situation. This is why this issue need to be taken more seriously by authorities, just because the neighborhood is sometimes peaceful doesn't mean those who are bad should take advantage of it. That will result in you losing valuable property or in general your personal space being violated.
The items stolen usually will almost to never be recovered and mostly will be sold as soon as stolen from the original owner in yard sales, or big flee markets. This is all due to the lack of education some people get in this neighborhood. 31%(5000/15500) people that live in this neighborhood have no high school education. Most of the people spending goes to tobacco.
